What is IPE?

Collaborative care starts here.

At its core, Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) challenges us to think differently about the ways we work together. It brings students from two or more professions or disciplines together with each other and with community members to learn about, from, and with one another - to improve health, health care, and well-being for everyone.

Doing this involves specific knowledge, skills, and experiences best learned while working with other professions or disciplines - and with patients, clients, carers, and community members to enhance collaboration and improve health outcomes while reducing costs. Most often, this kind of learning occurs in practice, outside the lecture hall.

Ohio State champions the next generation of healthcare professionals by leaning into the power of interprofessional practice and education. In the classroom, clinic, lab, or field, students join and learn from passionate teams of professionals to address the greatest healthcare needs in our communities.
