IPE Awards & Recognition for Students

The following awards honor students who exhibit exemplary leadership and achievement in interprofessional practice and education.

Interprofessional Community Scholars Service Award

The Interprofessional Community Scholars Service Award recognizes a past or current community member participant of IPCS who actively supports student growth, education, and lifelong learning and understands and encourages interprofessional collaboration. 

Criteria: Past or current CHM participants who have completed the program at least once in its entirety 

Nominators: faculty, staff, practitioners, or fellow students can nominate for this award.

Advancing Interprofessional Practice Award

The Advancing Interprofessional Practice Award recognizes a leader who embodies the BuckIPE core competencies: Values/Ethics for interprofessional practice, Roles/Responsibilities, Interprofessional Communication, Teams & Teamwork, Collaborative Leadership, and Evidence-based Practice. 

Criteria: Demonstrating a commitment to the competencies of IPE; affiliation with The Ohio State University as a faculty member or practitioner.  

Nominators: Faculty, staff, practitioners, or fellow students can nominate for this award.

Excellence in Interprofessional Research Award

The Excellence in Interprofessional Research Award recognizes individuals or teams who have contributed significantly to the scholarship of interprofessional practice and education.  Awards will be given in four categories: (1) educational research/scholarship of teaching and learning, (2) translational or bench research, (3) practice-based research, and (4) student research (students, residents, fellows).

Criteria:  An affiliation with Ohio State (at least one member of the team) recognizes scholarship that has been shared externally through posters and podium presentations at state, national, or international meetings.

Nominators: Patients, community members, faculty, staff, practitioners, or fellow students can nominate for this award. Self-nominations are accepted.

Deadline to Nominate: January 2024

BuckIPE Facilitator of the Year Award

The BuckIPE Facilitator of the Year Award recognizes the contributions of a facilitator in any setting whose commitment to the BuckIPE curriculum and core competencies positively impacts learners at any stage in their IPE growth trajectory. 

Criteria: Demonstration of impact on student learning (# of nominations, student comments) 

Nominators: Patients, community members, faculty, staff, practitioners, or fellow students can nominate for this award.

External Awards for Students

American Interprofessional Health Collaborative Student Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice


The American Interprofessional Health Collaborative Student Award for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice is given to a student who has consistently engaged in an interprofessional collaborative practice within the clinic, classroom and/or community.

The John H.V. Gilbert Global Award 


The John H.V. Gilbert Global Award recognizes the author of an outstanding interprofessional doctoral dissertation, published in the past three years (since 2019), that has resulted in a learning paradigm that brings interprofessional education and learning to interprofessional collaborative practice in a practice environment where practitioners, students, and patients have been engaged in developing measurable interprofessional high-quality care.
