On June 8th, the Office of Interprofessional Practice and Education, in collaboration with higher education institutions from across the State, hosted the first annual Ohio IPE Consortium to bring together individuals working to further interprofessional practice and education at universities throughout the State. At the inaugural meeting on the campus of The Ohio State University, 42 individuals from 24 different universities and colleges were in attendance. Dr. Renee Bogschutz, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Founding Director of IPE at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Chair of the Texas IPE Consortium, provided a keynote speech sharing the success of the Texas Consortium and advised as to the future of the Ohio IPE Consortium. Topics discussed during the working group breakout sessions included: methods to share curricular activities, building IPE infrastructure, establishing an IPE strategic plan, faculty development, assessment, sharing examples of IPE activities, research, gaining institutional buy-in, evaluation of IPE opportunities, and how to increase student engagement.

The next steps for the Ohio IPE Consortium include synthesizing the input received from the participants about priorities for future work together, and further developing the role and purpose of the organization, structure, membership, and plans for future gatherings. For more information on the programs underway for the Ohio IPE Consortium, please contact Dr. Andrea Pfeifle, Associate Vice President for Interprofessional Practice and Education at The Ohio State University.
