Learners participating in longitudinal teams during BuckIPE Core engage in a fun and interactive experience to meet their teammates and begin to build trust while also developing a greater understanding of the community and learning about tools and resources in Columbus that can positively impact local challenges to health, healthcare, and well-being. Learners discover how community organizations in central Ohio address Drivers of Health and Well-being and how they could get involved. Throughout, learners reflect on how interprofessional collaboration with and among community partners can advance health and well-being.

Fundamentals of Teamwork

Learners work learn about and from a family living in Central Ohio, their social and physical determinants of health, and their goals, needs, and priorities. Learners discuss key concepts around Drivers of Health and Well-being and consider different priorities and viewpoints while working together as an interprofessional team. Through these experiences, learners learn about each other's practice scope and responsibilities, learn evidence-based teamwork skills for effective interprofessional teamwork, and develop interprofessional collaborative practice competencies.

Tools of Effective Interprofessional Teamwork

In teams, learners learn about and practice evidence-based communication and teamwork tools. Learners work together to critically evaluate the use of communication tools in health care and population health scenarios, considering application to their future practice/careers.

Interprofessional Communication

- Immersion Level

- Contact Time: 2 hours

Learners prepare for the experience by completing assignments designed by their respective educational programs around a person living in the community who was recently discharged from a hospital stay. Learners work in interprofessional teams to seek and acquire information, learn about each other's roles and responsibilities, share evidence-based practices, practice essential communication skills, and collaboratively develop an iterative person/client-centered care plan.

Teams Advancing Health Outcomes, Team Event 1

- Immersion Level
- Prep Time: 1 hour

Learners enhance their understanding of the Drivers of Health and Well-being and healthcare inequities impacting person/client lives. They begin to appreciate how interprofessional teamwork addresses these multi-faceted needs. Learners look at scenarios illustrating these concepts and interact with a standardized person. Learners practice interview skills and active listening as they determine the root cause of a person/client's ailment. Teams identify and address underlying factors to positively impact healthcare outcomes and person/client experience. Learners practice providing peer feedback around select interprofessional collaborative practice competencies.

Teams Advancing Health Outcomes, Team Event 2

Learners continue to enhance their understanding of the Drivers of Health and Well-being and healthcare inequities. They work in teams to identify and address person/client concerns and underlying factors to positively impact healthcare outcomes and person/client experience. Learners practice providing peer feedback around select interprofessional collaborative practice competencies and receive feedback from their facilitator.
