IPE in Action
Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (ICP) happens when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with individuals and communities to deliver the highest quality of care and to support health and well-being across settings.
Interprofessional Collaborative Practice:
- Places the focus on the needs of individuals, their families and communities and recognizing they are part of the care team
- Requires shared decision making
- Includes mutual respect, competence, trust and synergy among team members
- Ensures that those who have the knowledge and expertise that matches the needs of the individual or community are engaged at the appropriate time
- Depends upon effective communication between team members
